19 bărbați români din 100 suferă de depresie postpartum | În Europa, procentul e mult mai mic
Postpartum depression affects about one in five women, but men are also impacted, albeit differently. The Arad Public Health Directorate highlights that up to 50% of cases remain undiagnosed due to stigma. This condition can affect the entire family, including the mother-child bond and the couple's stability. Approximately 10% of men may experience depression in the first year after childbirth. In Romania, the prevalence is 18.8%, higher than the European average of 9.3%. Symptoms can last from three to six months or even longer, with severe cases leading to self-harm thoughts. Early identification by family doctors is crucial, and effective treatment can lead to recovery for about 80% of women.
