19 august 2026: 425 de ani de la moartea lui Mihai Viteazul: Legătura voievodului cu Alba Iulia

In 2026, Romania will commemorate 425 years since the death of Mihai Viteazul, a significant historical figure linked to Alba Iulia. He was killed on August 19, 1601, near Turda after a military campaign. His connection to Alba Iulia began in 1599 when he entered the city following a victory over Andrei Báthory. The city served as a political center during his rule, hosting important meetings and negotiations. His relationship with Giorgio Basta soured after a victory at Guruslău, leading to his assassination by imperial soldiers. His remains were later buried in the Dealu Monastery.
