188 de kilograme de mâncare aruncate de fiecare român într-un an. Cum poate fi salvat surplusul de alimente? • Newsweek România

Romania wastes over 3.45 million tons of food annually, equating to 188 kg per person, while a significant portion of the population faces food insecurity. The Food Banks network has salvaged over 44,000 tons of food in ten years, redistributing it to vulnerable groups. Companies can donate surplus food, including items with aesthetic defects or nearing expiration, which are then sorted and distributed through regional warehouses. In 2025 alone, the network provided around 20 million meals to over 326,000 people. The issue of food waste also poses environmental challenges, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and resource depletion.
