18 august 1844, ziua care a schimbat lupta cu incendiile în București. Cum arăta prima unitate permanentă de pompieri militari
August 18 marks 182 years since the establishment of the Bucharest Fire Brigade, the first permanent military unit in Romania dedicated to fire prevention and extinguishing. The need for a specialized unit became clear in the early 19th century due to frequent fires in Bucharest. Under Gheorghe Bibescu's rule, a project for a fire brigade was proposed in 1844, leading to the official establishment on August 18 of that year. The brigade initially operated under military rules with 286 members and played a crucial role in major fires and the 1848 confrontation against Ottoman troops, which solidified its place in Romanian military tradition. September 13 is now celebrated as Firefighters' Day in Romania.
