In the first half of 2026, Food Banks in Romania salvaged nearly 9,000 tons of food, providing 17 million meals to vulnerable individuals, including over 111,000 children. The food was redistributed through 910 NGOs, reaching approximately 298,030 people monthly. This initiative addresses both food waste and the growing need for assistance amid rising living costs. Since its establishment in 2016, the network has collected over 49,000 tons of food, contributing to nearly 100 million meals distributed over the past decade. The process involves collaboration with companies to recover safe food that cannot be sold commercially, highlighting the dual issues of food waste and hunger.
