16 Russian nationals indicted on charges of using forged documents in order to obtain Romanian identity documents
The Prosecutor General's Office has charged 16 Russian nationals for using forged documents to obtain Romanian identity papers. They allegedly used fake citizenship certificates to falsely claim Romanian citizenship between February and July 2024. These documents were purportedly issued by various Romanian consulates and embassies. The defendants obtained Romanian birth certificates and identity cards based on these falsified documents. Prosecutors are seeking to annul all related documents and have identified 1,702 identity cards as fraudulent. The case has been forwarded to the Campulung Moldovenesc Court, with prior plea agreements already established.
