Thirteen EU member states are urging Brussels to assess the effectiveness of current legislation and advocate for new laws that promote innovation. Led by Austria, the initiative aims to reduce bureaucracy and create a more business-friendly environment. The signatories call for a thorough review of existing regulations to determine their necessity and effectiveness. They emphasize that EU legislation should not be an end in itself and advocate for a systematic evaluation of new laws regarding their impact on economic competitiveness. Additionally, they propose a mandatory review clause for new regulations every five years to ensure they meet their objectives and do not add unnecessary complexity.
