The case originated from the discovery of over 10 kilograms of drugs hidden in toothpaste tubes by flight attendants returning from Paris. Authorities identified a transnational trafficking network using encrypted messaging and courier services. Among those sentenced, Hà Danh Nậm was noted as the organizer, while Nguyễn Huy Hoàng was a key buyer. The proposed legal changes have not yet taken effect, maintaining the death penalty for certain serious crimes.
