Romania is nearing one million officially registered persons with disabilities, with physical disabilities being the most common. As of the end of 2025, there were 980,873 individuals with disability certificates, with a significant number living in families rather than institutions. The highest rates of disabilities are found in the Sud-Vest Oltenia, Sud-Muntenia, and Nord-Vest regions. Over 87% of registered individuals have severe or accentuated disabilities, with physical and somatic disabilities being the most prevalent types.
