The Romanian government has removed the Cătălinu and Ungurelașu mining areas from the closure list, allowing for graphite extraction at Baia de Fier. This strategic project aims to support the EU's goal of reducing dependence on critical raw material imports. The investment could reach €198 million, with potential annual revenues of $300 million from a targeted production of 15,000 tons of graphite. The project is crucial for the EU's battery supply chain, as over 90% of graphite is currently imported from China. SALROM is tasked with developing the site, which is expected to contribute to clean energy technologies.
