As of June 2026, Romania has nearly 360,000 registered prosumers, primarily individuals, who are increasingly storing energy. The growth in prosumers and storage capacity reflects a rising interest in self-produced energy and efficient energy use, contributing to a more flexible and sustainable energy system. The installed power reaches 4,019 MW, with a significant portion from individuals. Former Energy Minister Virgil Popescu highlighted that prosumers are now a major production capacity in Romania, providing essential support amid challenges in traditional energy sources due to drought. He emphasized the importance of continued investment in nuclear and storage capacities.
