Mugur Isărescu, despre trecerea României la moneda euro: Suntem pregătiți să o facem când societatea este pregătită. Trebuie mai întâi să ajungem la un deficit sub 3%

Mugur Isărescu, the governor of the National Bank of Romania, stated that while Romania should adopt the euro, it is currently unprepared. He emphasized the need to reduce the budget deficit below 3% and maintain fiscal discipline before proceeding. Isărescu noted that past efforts to prepare for euro adoption were interrupted by changing priorities and external crises. He highlighted that the transition to the euro is a complex political process requiring societal readiness. Currently, no criteria for euro adoption are met, and the focus remains on fiscal correction to enable future discussions on the euro.
