Following the government's decision to delegate the authority to issue gambling licenses to local councils, the number of operating gaming halls has significantly decreased. Currently, only 2,337 gaming halls are authorized compared to 18,981 during the same period last year. Local councils have issued only 90 resolutions, with 35 prohibiting and 55 allowing gambling activities. Additionally, tax revenues from gambling have dropped from 485 million lei to 300 million lei. The National Office for Gambling has indicated it can provide technical support but cannot implement regulatory changes without legislative action.
