Romania's mandatory private pension funds, Pillar II, saw a 39% increase in assets over the past year, reaching approximately 237.4 billion lei. The growth is attributed to both monthly contributions and investment performance. Over 8.54 million Romanians participate in this system, with 95% of investments in domestic assets, primarily government bonds and stocks. The funds hold around 150.72 billion lei in government securities and 68.37 billion lei in equities. The increase in assets reflects the growing importance of private pensions in Romania's financial landscape.
