Alexandria is the only city in Romania with all streets parallel and perpendicular, designed by Austrian engineer Moritz von Ott in the mid-19th century. Located 88 km from Bucharest, it serves as the capital of Teleorman County. The city was named after Alexandru Dimitrie Ghica, a ruler of Wallachia, and features a unique urban layout. Initially, streets were paved with granite, and the city quickly developed with shops and homes. The Orthodox Cathedral of St. Alexander, built between 1869 and 1898, honors the city's namesake. Alexandria has produced notable figures, including folk singer Liviu Vasilică and fashion designer Cătălin Botezatu.
