There are approximately 196 indigenous groups worldwide that remain largely uncontacted, primarily in South America, Asia, and the Pacific. These groups live in diverse environments and have varying degrees of contact with the outside world, often due to encroaching industries. Some groups, like the Sentinelese of North Sentinel Island, actively avoid contact, while others, such as the Kakataibo in Peru, have adopted isolation as a protective strategy. Survival International highlights the challenges in documenting these groups, as many remain unknown or have only been recently recognized due to their effective avoidance of outside interaction.
