The European Commission warned the Romanian government that proposed amendments to decarbonization legislation could violate commitments under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Minister Dragoș Pîslaru stated that the government sought the Commission's opinion before a Senate vote. Despite warnings, the Senate adopted a PSD amendment allowing coal and lignite power plants to operate until new energy capacities are built. Pîslaru emphasized that the decision to support the amendments was made despite clear alerts about potential risks, including the blocking of payment requests.
