Over 170 migrants were rescued after their boat caught fire while attempting to cross the English Channel to the UK. The incident occurred near Boulogne-sur-Mer, with the boat departing from Veules-les-Roses. French and British authorities collaborated in the rescue operation, which involved 173 individuals. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties. The maritime prefecture noted a significant increase in the number of migrants attempting such crossings, with 14,000 arriving in the UK this year alone. Tragically, at least 15 people have died during illegal crossings in 2023.
