Primarul municipiului Iași răspunde criticilor după oprirea iluminatului public după miezul nopții: „Nu este o întoarcere la comunism”

The mayor of Iași, Mihai Chirica, addressed citizens' criticisms regarding the decision to turn off street lighting after midnight as an energy-saving measure. He emphasized that this action is necessary due to Romania's energy crisis, exacerbated by drought affecting the Danube's water levels. Chirica clarified that essential areas, such as hospitals and pedestrian passages, will maintain lighting for safety. He rejected comparisons to communism, stating the measure is a responsible choice for future generations. The initiative is temporary and aims to ensure the city's normal functioning while prioritizing public health and energy stability for local businesses.
