Defence Minister Radu Miruta: Rock near Bala branch of Danube removed; 180kg of explosives used
A significant rock was removed from the Bala branch of the Danube using 180 kg of explosives to balance the river's flow, according to interim National Defence Minister Radu Miruta. This intervention aims to improve navigation and facilitate future dredging efforts. The Bala branch currently directs 85% of the river's flow, which is detrimental to Cernavoda. Divers confirmed the successful removal of the rock, exceeding expectations. Two barges are on-site to transport the debris, with a third expected soon. The Cernavoda power plant may need to shut down by midweek due to these operations.
