In Romania, damaged banknotes can be exchanged for free at the National Bank or commercial banks, provided they meet certain criteria. The National Bank has specific branches where individuals can directly exchange their damaged notes. Additionally, all commercial banks are legally required to accept damaged Romanian currency without fees, regardless of whether the customer has an account. For severely damaged notes, a request for technical expertise can be submitted to the National Bank.
