Romania wastes millions of tons of food annually while many families face food insecurity. The Food Banks Network recovers consumable products and distributes them to vulnerable individuals through partner organizations. In 2023, approximately 3.58 million tons of food are discarded, with 27.4% of Romanians at risk of poverty. The Food Banks have collected over 49,000 tons of food since 2016, providing over 96 million meals to around 340,000 vulnerable people. The organization encourages food donations from producers and retailers, highlighting the need for collaboration to reduce food waste and support those in need.
