A luat foc pădurea Amazonului iar Super El Niño amplifică dezastrul. Incendiile au fost puse intenționat, spun autoritățile
The Super El Niño phenomenon and human activities have led to a significant increase in wildfires in Brazil's Amazon state this month. Firefighters are struggling to control the fires, which are causing severe air pollution and event cancellations in several cities. In October, the number of fires surged by 253% compared to last year, with 1,679 incidents reported in the first two weeks. Authorities suspect many of these fires were intentionally set, leading to emergency declarations in 36 municipalities. The situation is exacerbated by climate change and the ongoing Super El Niño, which is expected to be the strongest on record. The Brazilian government has deployed aircraft and firefighting teams to combat the flames, while the Minister of Environment noted that many fires are set to clear land for agriculture.
