This decision follows local protests against the project by Mineral Proiect Invest SA. The referendum will ask residents if they agree with any mining activities in Rășinari. The local budget will cover the costs of the referendum, and preparations are currently underway. The project involves extracting magnesium rock resources and building a processing facility in Săliște, with an estimated investment exceeding 400 million euros. Local opposition has been significant, with over 19,000 signatures collected against the project.
