The current crisis in the oil and petroleum products market is set to extend until March 31, 2027, following an amendment adopted by the Chamber of Deputies' Commission for Industries and Services. A significant change involves the removal of an exemption in existing legislation, which could greatly impact fuel prices. The amendment, proposed by PSD deputy Augustin Hagiu, aims to limit the commercial markup on refining activities and the first sale of refined products. This adjustment is intended to enhance the coherence and effectiveness of the pricing mechanism for fuel distribution. Romania's dependency on oil and diesel imports has increased, especially with one of its refineries, Petrotel, currently closed. The crisis legislation already restricts distributor markups and imposes other limitations on fuel pricing.
