Approximately 70% of businesses in Romania have missed the deadline for updating their CAEN codes, risking fines and operational blockages. The deadline, set for September 25, 2026, was established by Government Decision no. 284/2025, allowing an 18-month transition period. Only one in three companies reportedly completed the necessary updates. The confederation IMM Romania is urging authorities to extend the compliance period by at least six months and to launch a national awareness campaign. Failure to update may lead to administrative issues, especially for businesses needing licenses or permits. However, not all firms will face immediate penalties for outdated codes, as sanctions depend on specific circumstances.
