The Bucharest Court of Appeal is reviewing the request for preventive arrest of Călin Georgescu, accused of fraud and leading a criminal group. The case involves an estimated loss of 1.1 million euros from a fraudulent scheme promising access to foreign financing. Investigators allege that Georgescu and associates misled a businessman into transferring funds as guarantees for a loan that was never granted. Following recent raids at his residence, Georgescu was detained and later placed under judicial control. He is also facing charges in two other criminal cases, including one related to promoting fascist ideas. He maintains the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
