Fostul ministru de Externe al Ungariei a dat 817.729 €, bani publici, pe avioane private cu care nu a zburat • Newsweek România

Hungary's former Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó spent €817,729 of public funds on private jets that he ultimately did not use. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed this expenditure in response to a request from 24.hu, detailing costs for official trips from 2022 to 2026. Although private jets were rented, Szijjártó often traveled on military aircraft instead, leading to significant financial losses. For instance, a planned trip to Cairo in September 2024 was canceled in favor of a military flight, incurring costs for the unused private jet. Similar expenses were reported for a trip to Washington. Industry sources noted that the amount spent on canceled trips is unusually high. During his tenure, Szijjártó completed 342 missions, primarily using military aircraft, with private jet rentals costing a total of 4.97 billion forints.
