In the early 1900s, Bazil Assan introduced the first car in Bucharest, a Belgian FN Herstal. This vehicle, registered as number 1, marked a significant milestone in the city's transportation history. Assan, an engineer and industrialist, was a pioneer in automotive innovation and also a founding member of the Romanian Automobile Club. The second car, owned by Prince George-Valentin Bibescu, was controversially registered as number 0 B, leading to disputes over the prestigious number 1. Despite this, Assan and Bibescu maintained a cordial relationship, contributing to the development of automotive and aviation clubs in Romania. Assan's car is now displayed at the National Museum of Romanian History.
