The EU and Canada secured at least €211 million for a new initiative aimed at ocean monitoring. This funding will enhance observation networks and install new equipment, including sensors and satellites. Ursula von der Leyen and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the financing for the OceanEye International Alliance at the UN General Assembly. The initiative, involving 30 countries, aims to strengthen the global ocean monitoring system, providing crucial data for navigation, weather forecasting, and coastal protection. The European Commission will contribute €92 million, while Canada will allocate CAD 82 million over five years.
