Saints Joachim and Anna, parents of the Virgin Mary, are celebrated the day after her birth. Joachim, a descendant of King David, and Anna, from the priestly lineage, prayed for a child after years of barrenness. An angel announced the birth of Mary, who was dedicated to God at the temple at age three. Saint Chiriac of Tazlău, born in the 17th century, became a monk and later a hermit, known for his piety and miracles. He was canonized in 2008. Saint Onuphrius of Vorona, born around 1700 in Russia, left his noble life for monasticism in Moldova, living in solitude and prayer for 25 years, also recognized for his miracles during his lifetime.
