Hungary will keep its borders closed until the end of 2026 and extend the state of alert due to mass migration linked to the Ceuta crisis, as announced by Prime Minister Peter Magyar. The government decided to prolong the state of crisis, originally set to expire on September 7, until December 31, 2026, citing minor risks. Magyar emphasized that even small legislative changes could create vulnerabilities in Europe's external border protection. He described the situation in Ceuta as a warning for Europe, highlighting the rapid escalation of the crisis and the tragic loss of lives at sea. Hungary continues to face a daily fine from the EU due to its migration policies, which Magyar argues are essential for protecting both Hungary's and the EU's borders.
