The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) allows Romanian citizens to access necessary medical care during temporary stays in EU countries and some others. It is free for insured individuals and covers urgent medical needs, but not planned treatments. In Alba, 5,114 EHICs were issued in the first seven months of 2026. The card is valid for two years, with exceptions for seniors and children. It does not cover private medical services or planned treatments abroad.
