Ați mânca dulciuri făcute din PET-uri? Cercetători finanțați de NASA au creat biscuiți 3D din plastic • Newsweek România

Researchers funded by NASA have developed 3D-printed cookies from plastic waste, specifically PET, which are surprisingly edible and tasty. The process involves reprogrammed yeast that converts plastic and agricultural waste into digestible proteins and flavor molecules. This innovative method, called oxidative hydrothermal dissolution, breaks down unwanted materials into microscopic residues, which yeast then consumes to produce essential food molecules. The resulting product, named µBites, is high in protein and could serve as a valuable food source in resource-limited environments, including space. While the cookies have received positive taste evaluations, institutional approval is still needed for further testing.
