Greece is experiencing a rapid increase in West Nile virus infections, prompting authorities to enhance mosquito control measures. In just one week, 47 new cases were reported, bringing the total to 157 infected individuals, with 13 fatalities. The virus is transmitted through infected mosquito bites, often showing no symptoms, but severe cases can affect the nervous system, leading to meningitis or encephalitis. The virus has been reported in 12 European countries, including Romania, which has confirmed 34 cases and two deaths.
