Starting August 25, drivers with unpaid fines risk having their licenses suspended. The suspension duration correlates with the unpaid amount, calculated at one day for every 50 lei owed. This measure affects Romanian license holders with outstanding traffic fines, including for agricultural vehicles and trams. The regulation, part of a broader reform to enhance tax compliance, was established by OUG nr. 7/2026. Local tax authorities will manage the enforcement, and drivers will receive a payment notice within 30 days of the debt registration. Full payment can restore driving rights before the suspension period ends.
