Cum au ajuns centralele nucleare din SUA să depindă de uraniul rusesc. „E modalitatea prin care Rusia ne spune că depindem de ei”

Despite the ongoing war in Ukraine, the US and Europe continue to rely on Russian uranium for their nuclear energy needs. Westinghouse Electric, a Canadian company, imports depleted uranium from Russia, which is used in US nuclear reactors. Although the US banned enriched uranium imports from Russia in August 2024, exceptions exist for depleted uranium if no viable alternatives are available. Reports indicate that the US imported significant amounts of depleted uranium from Russia last year, benefiting several companies. The EU has no restrictions on Russian uranium imports, and Canada has not sanctioned dealings with Rosatom. Experts urge countries to reduce their dependence on Russian nuclear fuel amid the conflict.
